#1287: determine placeholder image for annotations without illustrations

For annotations that do not have any illustrations (or that only have external images i.e. not from the lab or M&K-owned), we need to decide on a placeholder image for the thumbnail/card image. Ideas about possibilities:

• lizard outline (not ideal because it is used elsewhere to indicate loading or missing data
• cropped parts of a related ms page
• nothing (just a colored background)
• other?
